| Strong man Batty tows a tractor just to give everyone else a chance |
Cracking turn out for the hill climb, great to see our
friends from the Forest, and several new faces, some of which sounds to signing
up!
Adam Taylor nailed the hill, scalping our man Fallon fresh from A&E having attempted to cut his finger off the day
before. The Machine Machette once again proved last year’s result wasn’t a
fluke with a storming ride, just ahead of Strong Man Batty. New kid on the
block Conor had a good first event, saying he’d gone off a little too fast at
the start. Just as impressive was oldest rider (by a long way!) Richard, look
forward to seeing more of you both.
Apparently no relation to Richard was James “The
Spinner” up next with Mike a mere 1 second behind. Mr Pollard excels at the
climbs, seeming happy with his result.
The youngest rider was young Huw, who
looked very nervous at the start, not bad for a first attempt, he has cycling
DNA in him so will be expecting to see more of him in the future, if he really
enjoyed it, oh and he just scalped Gary – say no more…
Huws dad Will, put in a very respectable time with our
local Course resident finishing his cuppa before getting his bike out and going
for it .

Bob the Boat did lead the ride (well out to the start at least), then afterwards taking 9 people for an extended spin out through Carey, but
a great big hill made him and Julie reevaluate and head home a different way, the
rest taking a quick coffee and cake at Westons.
Bill’s Corner
Whilst some Club members went off to
try their hill climbing abilities on a pimple near Hoarwithy, the SAS riders
lived up to their name and glided up the Cutthroat Lane real hill. Newly
tarmaced by the way. How we laughed as we crested the summit. A sumptuous
repast was taken at Trioscape. Bacon butties being the order of the day. On the
way back the route was not as dementia friendly as I had thought. All the more
worrying as no one else had any idea where we were. Although Angela said she
knew what area we were in. Armed with this vital information the journey
continued uneventfully. 35ml being the final total.
I counted six out and six and a baby back. Interesting
things happen on SAS rides. Good to see two new faces too.
Next SAS ride will be on Sunday 2nd November. 9am start
still seems popular.
