The Boxing Day 10

With the weather window being kind, 13 riders turned up for the 2012 Boxing Day 10. This year’s course had a water feature to deal with as well as some mud and other debris, oh and I mention the odd new pot hole.
30 seconds in and the pains already showing

The good bikes and wheels were advised to be left at home, but some felt they needed to test how well they went through the natural water feature at Bishopswood.
Colin "The Power" Parry
Quickest on the Day was Colin “The Machine” Parry a mere 6 seconds in front Of “Turbo Will”, with Jazzy Streather not a million miles behind.
Radders looking for a 2 up partner
Julie using the sundial to time Jason
In their own little slip streaming battle was Marko Radders (thanks for the photo’s) and “Humming bird legs” Fallon, who both assure me they weren’t doing a 2 up.
Adam T was almost faster than the shutter on the camera
Warmed up nicely Adam T just missed out on Fallon Jnr’s. scalp with Jamie only 6 second further adrift. Jonny Webb once again made the monumental drive just for our company, oh and maybe the ride.
Full lights and mudguards, along with the tinsel air brake just to give everyone a fighting chance
I probably had the most un aero dynamic machine still dressed up from The Holy run with lights and mudguards. Once again Ed from Hereford pitched up for the lung buster chased down by Climb-on-bikes Andy. In his first TT Gary looked like he’d found new pain levels, don’t worry about it as it hurts that much every time, just you start to go faster.

“The Missile” got as far as the saw mills before the effort required in that headwind made him decide  to himself that he was feeling weak before turning back complaining of not actually feeling well.
The Missile before apathy attacked
Thanks to those that volunteered there help for the event, as there were several of you, but a very big thanks to Paul Fallon for the turn, Dave H pushing off and Julie timing. Thanks also to those who went to the water feature, and Mark "The Hit man  Carter"  for the movie image with some great music. Was it Iron Maiden?

Rider of the day was Gary. His face told a story of the pain that had inflicted itself on him.

The carnage that is the Holly Run, un-edited

Message from Dave, our organism, sorry, mean organiser
Dear All,
Bill's extra large glass
Well done to all those that have come back and confirmed their involvement in the fun & frolics of the Holly Run this year, we have enough signed up already for us to use the function room at The Prince of Wales and to have a 3 course Xmas lunch normally costing £20 at a special club rate for us of £16.

3 heads better than one

Next step is for you to chose from the attached menu what you would like to eat and send payment.

A Reay of  light

If you didn’t respond previously you can still come along and the following tells everyone what to do next if you are doing the ride followed by Xmas lunch.

Julie invents the beer scope for faster flow rates

If you plan to do the ride only then you can just turn up for departure from Prince of Wales car park on Saturday 22nd Dec at 11.30am.

Half a pint and he's anybodies

As previously mentioned it will be a relaxed 25 to 30 mile ride with a couple of pit stops en-route so bring some beer money, returning to the POW at around 3.30pm for lunch.

Mary roles a a good one while Mike does the flower arranging course

It was good stuff, can we all have some?

The Prince of Wales is allowing us to use their car park for anyone driving over and if not driving and want to bring along a change of clothes they can be left in the pub if needed during the ride.

Safe bike storage is not a problem once we get back to the POW.
For Holly Run & Lunch:
The Suffs wonder who's next to fall off a chair
  • Complete the attached menu form (not attached to this flyer) and send back to me by Sunday 2nd December, if you are filling in the form for several people put each persons name next to each food choice, if it just you then just put your name at the top with an “X” next to your choice.
  • Write a cheque for £16 payable to “Ross Cycling Club” and either bring it over to me this or next Thursday evening club night from 9pm at The Prince of Wales.
  • Want to come but couldn’t get your arse in to gear to do the above in time? If you talk to the Prince of Wales landlady nicely she will accept a booking direct with her up to 16th Dec, you will need to let her know your menu choices and pay her £16 cash at the time of booking.

Vintage Tankard 2012

Another VT has come and gone. In what looked closer than it really was once I’d done the maths, Ross once again stepped on the Top step of the podium. That should not detract from anyone’s efforts as the day in my humble opinion was quite hard with a cool breeze that I never really got a handle on about where it was coming from.
The last Climb up to the finish had several riders (including myself) doing track stands. Can’t understand it as that climb suits my strengths!

The old chestnut about the most suitable bike came up afterwards. Well initially I thought the TT bike was the right choice. Once finished, I thought the road bike was the right beast. Having checked my data from previous efforts the road bike felt better but the TT bike was 20 seconds faster. Next time its bolt on TT bars on the road bike!!!

Turbo Will was quickest on the day on the bike, but I was quickest getting the end of season beer.

Congratulations all who took part, you all made the event, which was a very friendly event indeed.

Time for a smile to the camera

We have a few pics, hopefully more will turn up. The battery on my camera started to fail so apologies if you’re not here, but a second batch should hopefully appear at some point.
