8th May and another Old Gore 10

Well that was another windy one; tailwind not very evident on the way out but the headwind home was brutal. Not the best of turnouts this week, I think it was the thought of Cookie turning up put a few off.

 Thanks once again toWilliam for timing, he’s back next week on the road (maybe), Bill and Mike Dunsby for the turn and Steve M pushing us off. 

Once again a foreigner took the top step of the podium. Them big ol legs of Dave Pearce punched a suitable hole through the air to turn the 15 second advantage I had on him at the turn around, and take a little back as well. Congrats Dave on our fourth place in the Tewksbury Tri-Athlon event today (Sunday).

 Max once again is stuck in no man’s land with a large gap to the next rider. First time out this year Tim N was pleased with his ride, perhaps thinking he may have gone a little faster.

Thomas "the Power" Knight only just snuck under the 30, saying it was his quickest ride to the turn. In fairness following him he was moving pretty quick in places. 

Rich H. looked suitably broken at the end, with Jon Airey saving himself for the weekend.

Rider of the night this week was Tim Newland. A step up from last year.

Some of the  action this weekend saw me & Clive Chappe ride the Ludlow 10 on Saturday. To say I was frightened by the wind was an understatement. I was blown everywhere, finishing in 24:10. Clive managed a 26:52 which he was more than happy with.

Sunday 3 of us rode the Usk 25. Deep section front wheel was removed. I came home in 1:01:44 in 25th place, Clive managed a 1:08:58 in 44^th place and Jon Airey looking very pleased a 1:11:58 in 48^th spot, first 25 miler in more years than he cared to think about.

Re-hydration and a chance to catch up with his latest novel before nursing Paul M home

On the road, Paul Middleton and friends decided today was a rain or shine ride, managing 135 odd miles and several pie stops. Paul M managed to save some energy apparently tucking into the other Paul’s slipstream.

Club ride front appears to have gone to Chepstow, with at least 3 out, but there may have been more.

Next Sunday is the Cross Ash 25, a nice friendly little circuit. Weathers looking good. At present we have no timekeeper. Please let me know before Saturday tea time if you are riding, so I can put a plan into place. If no one’s riding I won’t worry if you don’t go ahead. Did I mention a lovely trophy for the winner?

A good cross section of riders out tonight.

Headwind out meant there was a slight push homeward, but not what I would call a fast night. Earl took gold winning quite comfortably, with me just scrapping in as the first Ross home. 

Taff's first outing on the race bike showed that winter of training and foreign training camp has had the desired effect. Next week (this week really) should be interesting. Oh the pain, one second was the difference between 2^nd and third sooooo close, with Steve M having to settle with an uncharacteristic third spot. 

Surprise of the night (there was a few) was Steve Williams, Earls training plan must have paid off. Alan M. came home in sixth, not where I thought he would be, but another who will improve as the season goes on. It’s all about enjoying it, really!

Wobbly Bob had a good one, just scalping James, who in turn was going well – was it the battle royal with Steve W. that made the difference? 

I’ve kept wondering why I’d not seen Tom “The Power” Knight all these weeks. I now think I know the answer. Ever since I’ve known Tom he’s worn COB colours, this week as I was looking at Richard photo’s (thanks for that Rich), there was  Tom in Ross colours, and I must say looking very bright. He looked like one of us….

Gary D. slipped under the half hour with Nigel only just scrapping under.  I’m told he was worried about the slate of one of his tyres. Paul M. was just over the 30 so am sure he will be disappointed with that.

Bringing home the bacon was a surprise if ever there was a surprise. In a true neighbourly fashion, Jon A. beat Clive C., which think is a first that I can remember. I’m sure I’ll be corrected if I’m wrong. 

Thanks this week to Will for the timings; I think he’s secretly been enjoying the power and bribes. Bill for the turn long with Angie I think, and well thinking about it, might have been Will pushing off and Angie timing. Will know when I get the timesheets back.

Rider of the night was so difficult this week. Taffs first competitive ride and Steve Williams  improvement have both been awesome so I think on this occasion a joint rider of the night is in order.

This week looks its almost defiantly going to be an Old Gore 10 see you there!

Thank Will for the organising of last week’s event also an Old Gore 10, and the Marshalls who helped out. I hear the chip evening went down well, so thanks also to Bill on that front, and Taff for his sauces…

Reasonable conditions were the order of the night, I was expecting a little more breeze than we had, it helped slightly on the return leg.

Andy Turner managed to grab his first win at a Ross event, followed by my good self-full of American fare from last week. 

Steve M snuck in for another second Ross spot again this week. Adam T’s love of the hills show, putting in a great ride.  Max looks like a man on a mission this year, watch him improve every week.. Wobbly Bob is also doing the bizz, that secret training I keep catching him doings paying off. 

Climb on honours this week went to Blane, which meant Catweasle Mark got a ribbing. I’m expecting this to change next time….

Mr Lough looked a little shocked at how hard it had been on the return. (Sorry if I’ve spelt your name/s or got your club wrong, currently don’t have the signing on sheets). 

Nigel, Nigel Nigel, I’m going to stick a rocket up your butt, I know your faster than this. Paul M’s ditched his TT machine (or was it just clip ons?) and gone back to the road machine in preference- appearing happy with the results. 

Tony The Tiger looked grrreat, well out anyway. Lack of miles show more on Old Gore than anywhere else. Jon you looked good, it’s the fight in the dog, not the dog in the fight!
