Hef & Rich turned up to the wrong start point for the hanicap 10

The Night was wet.

I expected the throngs to turn up on mass just to see what they were given for a handicap. It never happened, with several categories already sorted as to who had won them. I had my money on Will pulling the handicap feat a second year running. As it was, “The Missile” scuppered his day! In what was one of his most impressive rides this year he almost beat Will on time as well. It would appear he had been sand bagging all year as well…

Will had been doing his quickest rides on Old Gore, so I knew he had more in the tank for Walford. As we had been so close all year, I thought it only fair to give him the same handicap as me. If it had been based on his Old Gore time then he would still have lost out to “The Missile” by 7 seconds.

Disappointed with his time “The Spin Dryer” took the 3rd spot on the podium. I was impressed with James on the flat bits. Willing to bet the 26 happen easy next year.

First Lady home, and forth-in handicap Mary still had her customary smile for the finish. The Scratch time everyone should have done was 21:37 by the way.

Tony “The Tiger” looked like he had gotten very wet by the finish. Time to shave them legs to be that little more areo. Me don’t ask, lets just say, my legs failed to fire till the turn.

Bill had a disappointing ride as sparing partner Mike “The Post” failed to turn up to sort out who came out best in the 753-points competition, it was that close.

“The Destroyer” turned up on his road bike with mudguard and wasn’t going to ride before he was talked into it. He had become complacent due to the fact he could not be caught in the yellow category of the 753. He even slowed down to walking pace to cross the line. Unluckiest rider of the night had to be Webb. He decided he didn’t need all the teeth on his block after chewing them off with a not quite so nice gear change. Rider of the night was “The Missile”. Next year I expect far more from you.

Last Old Gore of the Year

Last Old Gore of the year didn't fail to disappoint some.

With The Cookmiester out of the picture there were a few fancying their chances of being "The Ross No 1."With the wind conditions as they were, with a slight cross wind helping a little on the return leg, I could not see any useful times appearing on the results sheet. I was wrong again..

Forest rider Dave Evans put in a really good performance, not a million miles from the record.

Best of the Ross crew was our old club champion Jerry looking very pleased with his ride only seconds away from his PB on this course. Very very close behind was Will, whose best time for a club 10 is on Old Gore. How does that work? Is he sandbagging for the handicap?

“The Missile” has just at the end of the season started to show the power he has lurking in his legs. Wait till next year, I’m sure he’s not going to be so slow out of the box. Well a contented Fallon took his scalp back off “The Destroyer” with one hand only to give it to “The Missile” with the other. It’s not often Fallon smile but he was this week. “The Destroyers" mission was to get into the 25’s on Old Gore, which he just did. Well done, as I failed badly this week. Too much good living in France maybe.

“Dave The Tri-athlete Pearce” maybe has started to get a handle of the Old Gore course, having improved ever time he’s been out on it. My advice this week must have paid off…

Wobbly Bob was a little off the pace tonight. Forgot to interrogate him as to why. I swear Tony wasn’t trying as I past him, but his time suggests different. Was that for my benefit?

Paul Cooper asked what time was classed as a reasonable first ride. I’m pleased to say he was within the parameters set out before he rode. The Mike and Bill battle still rages. This one could go on for years. Bill was overheard to say, “ he’s almost taken a minute out of me”. Not sure if he was happy or sad about it.

Mary was first lady home looking quite tired from her efforts. Vivien had to settle for the lantern rouge position looking very happy, but with the most awesome red glow I think I have ever seen.

Rider off the night this week was Will for his best 10 time for the year. His card has been marked for the handicap now though.

Thanks this week go to Julie or pushing off and time keeping. That girl has now learnt the art of multi tasking. John & Audrey did the turn.

Thanks last week to Will & Sam for their efforts. Wills predicted times were a nice touch, and the lovely Sam did the timing, which it was said she used a atomic clock for accuracy.

Last Walford next week. It’s the Handicap 10. Don’t be late. Looks like it could be a short course again

Walford - 5th of August 2010

Well the traffic lights remained this week but moved a little bit further to Lydbrook so a slightly shorter course at 8.72miles.

Results are below, with an extra column as requested by a few, your Fun Time. What you may have done if it was a full course presuming you could of kept the pace up!

Rider of the night is a tough one, was very close almost going to Sam Walker for getting within a second of Fallon but it was Taff who took it for doing a 21:26 which is a great ride, potentially putting him into the 24min mark! Watch out for him at at the handicap in a couple of weeks!

Next week is Old Gore, 6:45 sign on at the latest for a 7:00PM start!

Old Gore - 29th of July 2010

Morning all,

Well we had another good turn out at Old Gore last week with 20 riders keen to tackle this lumpy course!

Many thanks to Alan Jones for pushing off and John Hall for marshaling the turn.

Rider of the night goes to Andrew Jones for such an quality ride with Dave Harword coming a close second!



David Evans has kept his recent form after setting a record at Walford , he has done the same at Old Gore. Record previously was 23:23, so a good 13 seconds off!

See you all this coming Thursday for Walford, if the road works are there we will run the shorter 9mi course again.



Remember we are now back to 7:00PM first man off, which means signing up at the LATEST of 6:45pm.

What a fool, forgot to put the link on last week. Still you all know the procedure by now!

Old Gore

On a wet and wild windy/rainy night I was expecting next to no one to turn up for the Old Gore 10. I thought to myself there are some very easy points here in the 753 tables. How wrong I was. Every man and his dog turned up with the exception of Wobbly Bob and The Missile still fresh from his first 22 minute 10.

The rain started about 7:00, and then just slowly started to get worse and worse. The wind was coming from all directions, which once up and running never seemed to be a severe headwind anywhere, but at the same time managed to slow proceedings down. Cookie having said if he managed to do a sub 20 minute 10 Saturday (19:18) he would buy a set of rotor rings. Anyway with them now fitted, tested them out the first time in the process had the quickest time of the evening. He was the only one who didn’t notice there was a wind out there.

With Paul Fallon’s Mojo fresh back from the cleaners, the signs of a return to form could be on the way, securing second spot on the podium this week. Will’s magic failed this week, a course that works for him. “The Destroyer” fearing his holiday would lose him his lead in the 753 was in a determined frame of mind, just doing the bizz. This week’s Rider of the night goes to Taff, stealing the fine scalp of the racing Sec along the way. I hang my head in shame. Well-done Taff.

Dave Pearce back on his TT bike was a little slower than anticipated. After a scorching ride in a road bike 10, I expected a little more. Position on the TT machine may require some re working. James now has a new machine, unfortunately, it’s not allowed out in poor conditions. Tony looked good on the bike but, the time suggested he may have struggled over the last 4 miles. Dennis brought up the rear, questioning himself as to why he ridden.

Walford 10

What a difference to last week’s event. With skies that looked like they were getting ready to dump their load upon us, several key players failed to pitch up. The Yellow group turned out in force last week and got soaked. With the thought of getting soaked again most failed to turn up this week. Now the truth. This is how it really played out. Everyone felt guilty about stealing point in the 753 off “The Destroyer” whilst he was on holiday.

With his form most definitely coming back “The Terminator” (actually T1000 model) popped in the fastest performance of the evening. At this stage, must say the course was shortened to 9 miles due to traffic lights right outside Walford School.

This may affect the Forest event on Tuesday forcing them to relocate or shorten their course. Top Ross doggy was young William. This week he turned up with ballet tights around his calves, trying to convince us they were compression socks. The Missile now has him locked in to his sights only 30 seconds behind.

Taff again put in a really good effort. Where is he suddenly finding this speed? Dave Pearce this week looked happier on his TT machine. This week I did the pushing off. You get to look at everyone’s bike etc; he’s a big strong lad (in the nicest possible way). Am guessing he does triathlons.

James still hasn’t brought the new machine out, but the thought of riding it has improved his time this week. At last, Chris has turned up for his first TT. As he left the start line, you could see the power as he smoked the back tyre for the first 20 metres. He may have gone a little too fast off the line out to the turn leaving not quite enough to get back. Am expecting far better times off him once he learns the art of pacing himself.

Tony came over the line like he’s done a CTC event. I want to see blood and guts, not a big friendly smile! If it had been the full distance, I reckon Bill would have just slipped under the half hour for the first time this year. Mary had a lovely red glow as she crossed the line, with young Matt Fallon only 9 second behind. Was she blushing about being chased by a young man? Matt obviously enjoyed chasing Mary, but was also very happy with his ride, already planning how he’s going to attack the event next time. Rider of the night this week is James. That 26 minute 10 would have happened this week if it had been the full fat 10 miles.
