1st Old Gore 2015

Seem people like a sporting course, this week it dragged some big guns out for the challenge. Conditions were a tad cool. But not cold, with a light tailwind home, but however the air was what I call dense and difficult to cut through. All the ladies chose to watch this week from the side lines giving valuable 753 points away, don’t forget ladies, at the end of the season points make prizes.

This week’s winner Paul Jones had a stormer of a ride, coping well with the Paris Roubaix section of the course like it wasn’t there. Mr Churchus’s reputation went before him producing a quality ride and bragging rights to the 1st road bike home. Would have loved to know his time to the roundabout. Lee Jones took 3rd, possibly surprising himself with his time with Will Perin taking fourth. In case some have you have not heard, both of our 10 courses are being used in a road bike series run by Gannet Jonny, hence the fast road bikers.

I this week had the honour of fastest Ross rider, struggling home, with Nigel proving Walford wasn’t a fluke. I sure he was hold back in till the return leg with me being sooo close to him at the turn but failing to actually catch him before watching him ride away from me up the final hill.

Radders turned the 17 deficit around from Wobbly Bob from last week to open up an advantage of 21 seconds this week. Wonder who’ll have the advantage back on Walford this week.

Swiss Tony was in his own race, almost exactly a minute difference from last week. Young James did his first sub 30 on Old Gore, but didn’t look happy. Old saying – gentle gentle catch the monkey, meaning  you can’t go faster and faster every week, but it will come to you as the temperatures improve.

Forest rider Richie Wakefield came to cut his teeth on the Course, he actually looked to have enjoyed it. See if he comes back for more. On a good night it rewards well.

Tom Tom Tom, what can I say? Are you going for that special trophy again? First time I saw Tom, he was walking home along the spur having had what looked like a knife wound to his tub. Sammie saved his day by coming from the start to give him a lift and get his other bike. Rather than swap bikes, would it have not been better to swap wheels as if I remember right you came back with a road bike.

Conor’s first 10 resulted in just over evens, which should comfortably see him sub 30 minutes on Walford. He lost a little time to the tractor driver that didn’t see him at the turn. Richard H had a birthday this week possible over-celebrating, did this blunt his performance?

Jon Airey had the penultimate spot, did not speak to him afterwards to see how he thought he’d done, always try to speak to everyone afterwards. Give me the words to talk claptrap on here now.
Last home and possibly starving was Paul Cooper. He might not have been the quickest on the night on the road but he beat everyone to the P.O.W. for a glass of lemonade and a great big egg & chips.

Next week we’re back at Walford. Please park courteously if driving.

Thanks this week go to Will & Sammie timing, Taff pushing you up and over the first hill, then Bill, Rachel, Angie and John & Audrey

Rider of the night this week has to Luke Churchus for a really impressive ride on a road bike (second week running going outside of the club, much kudos for the first ross rider to win it ), just think Luke, on a good night it’ll be an easy 23 minute, no pressure!
