Old Gore 18/7/2013

For slow rides,The Missile puts on another clubs colour's

I’m back in the chair, No not forgotten about the results of the events of the last few weeks. It’s been very manic at work which has encroached on my time on here, then add in the open and a wedding (not mine), it’s all taken a chunk of my time. Talking of which, thanks to all the club members who helped Will & I out in some way for the open weekend. It appeared to go well, making a few coppers to keep clubs costs down and pay for things like the free BBq the other week!

Well, the boy come good, Young William moved the course record even further out of everyone’s grasp, in what for many were perfect conditions with several PB’s done.

The Missile fresh from conquering Scotland & Hampshire made a personal appearance at the home team’s event, putting in what I consider a very fine effort for a man of his stature and shape. I can imagine him now going to look in the full length mirror wondering what I’m on about….

I just knew Jerry was up for the fight doing a ride right in the time zone I was expecting. He did look very pleased with himself afterwards, and possibly quite rightly so.

Jonny Webb appears to have found a little something over the last few weeks, with an even more pleased Taff a mere one second behind him for a Pb that made his day and had some quality scalps in the process. Millie had to watch the 2 pretenders knowing its just borrowed till next time as it was only five seconds.

Put that tongue away!
Fresh from a mid-season rest, and with the god wheels in, Little Fallon put in a sterling time, with the 25 minute barrier only just in front to of him now, look out next week. As for me, numbers were good, the rest period in the middle seems to have been my downfall, look out next week, I'm going to try!

James has had a really good ride, the TT bike came out, the results are there to see, will assume The Spinner’s happy with that. Climb on Andy may have just knocked 2 seconds off his PB – would need to check properly to confirm that one.

Hmmm, if there was a waggiest tail competition, then Sarah would have won that, bouncing around like Tigger once she’d seen her time. I have to admit, Sarah was reeling me in from Marcle straight to the foot of the climb. I did try to work out who it was as I approached the last climb. Another 10 miles, she’d have had me.

Gazzer attended the rowing club afterwards with his head bowed, up on Sarah to the turn, the return not suiting his taller frame. Richie B had his first taste of OG, see if he returns to attempt to beat the course. Paul said his ride was a PB. The boy was still on a high from his open 10 result. Last home but also with a PB’ for the course was Jon Airey. Quoted after the event “racing 3 times a week’s making the difference to my times”. He was reminded these improvements in performance will affect his Handicap time later in the year.

Thanks this week to Paul Fallon & the Halls at the turn, Julie for timing, even if she was captain angry because people didn’t shout their number out over the line.

Marshal required for next week, let me know if you can do….

The Spinner feels the pain, or was it the pain feels the Spinner?
Rider of the night this week was extremely hard because so many of you moved your own envelopes on.  We had Turbo Will’s C.R., The Missile’s efforts, Jerry back on the money, Taff’s scalping PB, Humming bird legs Fallon, James’s turn around and Sarah’s waggy tail antics. In the end, and it was a very tough decision, we the adjudicators will name 2 riders of the night, Turbo Will & Taff Boy Lavington.

Time change note the time for next week’s Old Gore and all the other events is back to 7:00PM

13/5 Olg Dore 10

Sam prepares his race bike

Surprisingly good conditions for this week’s event, just a tornado tailwind out to contend with, not that it slowed “The Missile” down on the way back. We had dry conditions, bit of a slight chilli in the air that made Millie want to jump straight back in his car and go home.

As mentioned, "The Missile" did the bizz, a country mile in front of us mortals. Millie soon warmed up setting the second best time. Not sure how, but I just managed to hold Max off for third spot, that holiday training should be ready to kick in this week.

In his first outing this year, young Taff Lavington was content with the performance commenting on the worrying nature of the breeze on the front wheel going down the hill from the start.
Bill training for the turn duties, the boy takes it seriously!

Another new old face was Martin Green in his first Ross outing this year, just holding off our Rich, who looked a little shell shocked from the wind.

Thanks this week to Turner Bill & Julie Timer, with man of steel Sam pushing off as well as riding.

Rider of the night this week was Sam again, the wind not slowing him to much at all.

Next week/ actually this week is an Old Gore 10. Weather looks good, behave as I will be approaching Livorno to catch a night ferry so Julie and William will be holding the reins.

Ride and BBQ update – Sunday the 23rd of June.

So, to the main event first: The Committee has agreed for the club to pay for the BBQ food for members and their families. The Rowing Club bar will be open from around 4.30pm and the BBQ will be lit at 5pm. On offer will be:

·         Veggies options of course.
·         Hot Pork rolls – apple sauce or stuffing.
·         Top quality Burgers – onions and/or cheese.
·         Basic green salad.

Anyone bringing down additional salads, cakes etc will of course have the gratitude of all.

If you want to cook more/your own stuff as well, feel free – the BBQ will be on and available.

About 35 expressed an interest initially so we are catering for about 40. If you didn’t reply initially, and are now planning to come along with your family, please let me know ... we don’t want you and yours going hungry of course.

Oh yeah ... there is a ride as well.

Departing from the Market Place at 9.00am and heading out through lanes to Gloucester. South West on a mixture of quiet lanes and canal towpaths (suitable for road bikes) stopping for a coffee next to the canal near Saul. Then onwards to the Severn Bridge and Lunch at Chepstow. From there we are spoiled for route choices home ... the suggested one goes through St Briavels , Clearwell, Newlands and on to Staunton before rambling back via the English Bicknor and a brief flirt with our old 10 course (ahh ... those were the days).  Aiming to be back about 4ish.

It’s approx 135km and 900 meters of ascent.  Have a look at the route and upload it to your gizmo at:

Nothing to sign up for – if you are there for 9, you are in. Sense will prevail if the weather looks bad – options to be discussed by the assembled crowd.

So, let’s hope for some good weather, and a cracking day for all.

Cheers for now.

Taff

LEDBURY & BACK

Wobbly Bob stamping on   the pedals
Just a quickie I’m afraid, very busy week, and next week…

Well done Samuel, a well-deserved win, and about time too. Top ride by Millie, with a first turn out in a while by our Jerry, who appeared pleased to be out and still roughly mixing it with some faces of old.

Adam T declared it a great course, this week punching above his weight. The Destroyer’s out to get everyone, getting faster every week, wait till he starts his 2013 training plan.

Tom "The Power" Knight had a blinder, great ride Thomas, you were in the reckoning for ROTN. Wobbly Bob’s  weekend of training saw him moving up the rankings. Nigel, you may have had Bob’s scalp if you’d not given me support up the hill…..

Our TV star Rich made a special appearance to ride with us, another improving every week. Apologies to Paul, I said he looked to be struggling, at which point he said it was his 10 pace, just struggling for that moment I saw him. Clive declared the road surface the best in the country, and wishes we ran Old Gore every week. Tony, well Tony looked very smart in his sun glasses.

Thanks this week, as we needed extra help,  goes to Julie timing, Will Bevan pushing off, with Sam P, John & Audrey, Mike D & Bill at the roundabouts, thanks all.

Rider of the night this week has to go to The Missile

Next week were going to do an Old Gore 10

Currently no volunteers for marshaling duties
